Scholastic Chess

This site is intended to contain information on and links to scholastic chess events and activities not only in Missouri but also in nearby areas of neighboring states, in particular Illinois and Kansas. Generally, Missouri players are welcomed in events in other states and vice-versa. USCF membership is often not required for these events.

Gateway Chess League
, a major scholastic chess organization in the St. Louis area that organizes the Missouri State Scholastic Championship and the Denker/Polgar playoff tournaments. This site provides information about the league as well as the schedules of matches and tournaments.

 

 

 2008-2009 Missouri Scholastic Championships

 

Missouri High School Denker/Polgar Playoff -- March 28, 2009

 

Brad Schlosser of Chesterfield, Missouri was the winner of the 2009 Denker Playoff with a score of 3.5/4. He will be Missouri's representative at the 2009 Arnold Denker Tournament of High School Champions. Margaret Hua of Ballwin, Missouri was the winner of the 2009 Polgar Playoff and will be Missouri's representative at the 2009 Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls.  The Denker tournament of Champions is held every year in conjunction with the United States Open. The Polgar Invitational is held at Texas-Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

Missouri State Scholastic Championship -- February 28, 2009

 

 

 

Missouri saw its largest tournament in state history (with the exception of the National Championships) on February 28. A total of 515 chess players converged on the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City, Missouri all vying for a state title. The MCA would like to extend its appreciation to the Gateway Chess League for running another fantastic event.
