Java Help
| The Montreux chess viewer applet requires Java 1.1. This means that not
every browser will be able to handle Montreux. Montreux should work fine with Netscape Communicator 4.06 and up.
For Netscape 4.00 - 4.05 you need a JDK patch that is available at the Netscape site. Netscape below version 4
will not work. Internet Explorer will work starting with version 4.01. If you do not have one of these browsers
you might consider an update. Most updates are freely available. If your computer came with Windows XP installed you may have to download and install a Java Virtual Machine. Some versions of Windows XP have the JVM; others do not. Microsoft no longer distributes their own JVM, but you can obtain one from the Sun Microsystems Web site. This JVM should also work in earlier versions of Windows. If you have a viewer installed but it does not work correctly, you might try updating your Java Virtual Machine. Windows users of Microsoft Internet Explorer can go to the Sun web site. Mac users of Internet Explorer can get an up-to-date version of the Mac OS Runtime for Java from Apple websites for Mac OS X or Mac OS 9 or earlier. Netscape 4.X for the Mac is not Java 1.1 compatible without the MacIntosh runtime for Java 2.1 available from the Apple Web site. |
