Missouri State Chess Championship

2011 Championship Cycle Overview
The title of 2011 Missouri State Chess Champion will be decided at the Missouri State Invitational Championship which will be held August 20-21, 2011 at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis.
This year's Invitational Championship will match the format of the 2010 event where a Swiss-System event consisting of about 20 players will determine the Missouri State Champion. As in 2010, in conjunction with the 2011 Missouri Invitational Championship, the new Missouri Amateur Championship will be held awarding the Amateur Champion title.
Tournament Format & Details
5-round Standard Swiss, Game/120 minutes.
USCF and FIDE Rated
Entry Fee:$40.00. FREE--The Chess Club and Scholastic Center has generously agreed to sponsor all entry fees. Prizes b/20: $500-1st, $250-2nd, $125-3rd.
In the event of a tie, cash prizes will be split, but the State Champion & plaque winner will be determined by 1.) Number of Wins 2.) Head-to-Head result 3.) Numerical (Modified Median, Sokolov, Cumulative)
Check-in: 9:00-9:30 Saturday. Rounds: Saturday-10:00/2:30/7:00, Sunday-9:30/2:00
Registration: All players must confirm attendance no later than Monday, August 15, 2011.
How to Qualify for the Invitational Event
Invitations will be granted in the following ways:
o Previous Missouri State Champions (State Champions from the past 5 years receive an automatic invitation.)
o 2010 Gold Player of the Year
o Denker tournament representative
o Girls Championship representative
o All Missouri residents* rated 2200 USCF and over.
o Missouri Heritage events automatically qualify at least one. (St. Louis Open, The Greater KC Open, M/X Class Champion, Missouri Open Champion, Missouri Amateur Champion)
o Select other tournament winners**
o Up to two wildcards named by the championship organizer
*Resident: "MO" must listed as state of residence with the USCF and must be able to present a government issued Missouri ID.
**A qualifying tournament must meet the following standards:
1. Be a minimum of 4 rounds
2. Game must be G/75 or greater
3. The tournament must require MCA membership
4. Must be held in Missouri
5. Held at least 30 days before the Invitational event
A qualifying tournament drawing at least 20 awards one championship spot.
A qualifying tournament drawing at least 40 awards two championship spots.
A qualifying tournament drawing at least 60 awards three championship spots.
-Only full paid entrants count toward attendance totals.
Additional Notes:
-TD's need to contact the Invitational organizer before running the event to confirm it has been identified as able to award a spot.
-In the event of a tie for first place, all players tied, provided they are Missouri residents and haven't already earned a invitation, will be awarded an invitational spot.
-If a player who as already earned an invitation through a qualifying tournament finishes first in a subsequent qualifying tournament, the invitational spot is NOT passed on to the next player in line.
- A tournament director or organizer may not receive an invitational spot from his/her own event.
- Directors must be members of the MCA, and must require membership from all players in the qualifying events.
